David Lawrence Ramsey III is an American radio personality who offers financial advice. He hosts the nationally syndicated radio program The Ramsey Show.

Dave Ramsey was born on 3 September 1960, Antioch, Nashville, Tennessee, United States. He has three (3) Children.

Dave Ramsey started on one station in Nashville back in 1992, sharing practical answers for life’s tough money questions. Today, he’s joined by his co-hosts in reaching 18 million combined weekly listeners.

Following the success of The Lampo Group, Ramsey began to co-host a personal finance-focused radio show called The Money Game with his friend, Roy Matlock. Around that time, he also published his first book, Financial Peace, and leveraged his growing radio audience to help sell it.

Ramsey then launched a spin-off radio program called The Dave Ramsey Show. In each episode, people from all over the country call in to ask Ramsey a wide range of personal finance questions. Dave Ramsey’s net worth is estimated to be $200 Million.

Dave Ramsey’s name has become synonymous with financial education and wealth creation. His knowledge of personal finance has assisted millions of people in getting out of debt and establishing a solid financial foundation.

Dave Ramsey has this theory for financial freedom to incrementally build savings and pay off debts in a systematic way. He has formalized this logic into a series of “7 Baby Steps” that anybody could reasonably follow and succeed with.

The Dave Ramsey 7 Baby Steps

  1. Establish an emergency savings fund of at least $1,000.
  2. Pay off all non-housing debts ASAP starting with those with the smallest outstanding balances.
  3. Increase your emergency fund to 3-6 months’ income.
  4. Invest 15% or more of your gross monthly income into a retirement account like a 401(k) or IRA.
  5. Start college funds (if you have children) in qualified accounts like 592 plans and
  6. Pay off your mortgage as early as possible.
  7. Build wealth.

Dave Ramsey has written so many books on finance that could help you grow your business, and on how to earn so much. Dave also wrote on how to negotiate on a business deal.

Seven Basic Rules of Negotiating

Dave Ramsey drew out some rules which he made the Seven Basic Rules of Negotiating. These are steps that guide you on how to make decisions when negotiating.

  1. Always tell the truth. One note on this, sited from Tom Stanley’s “The Millionaire Next Door”, was that the #1 characteristic of millionaires was that they had fanatical levels of integrity.
  2. Use cash. We actually tried this when we bought our couches. Seemed to help.
  3. Use walk-away power. In other words, do not emotionally attach yourself to the item. The salespeople have to feel they’re “losing” you…
  4. Shut up. Ask a question, gather information, and remember that silence is powerful. Good question to ask: “Is that price firm?”
  5. Use the phrase: “That’s not good enough.” (This was made famous by Henry Kissinger)
  6. Go to the authority. When you’re not getting anywhere, say, “I’m sorry. I made a mistake– I thought you were qualified to negotiate. (Something tells me Ramsey could say this more effectively than me. I’d probably get kicked out of the store…)
  7. Use the “If I” technique. Example: “If I were to _____, I would need to ____.” Have patience with this.
